Aperture - The aperture is the piece inside of the camera that determines how much light is allowed to hit the film. It can affect the photo by making it lighter or darker depending on the size of the aperture.
Shutter - The shutter opens and closes for a choice amount of time and also allows in light. It affects photos by making them blurred or crisp depending on how long the shutter is open. It can also affect the darkness of the picture.
Burning and Dodging - This is the process in which a part of a photo is shielded from the light, while the rest is still exposed. This is used to darken or lighten a certain area of the photograph.
Under-Exposure - This is when not enough light has gotten to the film. The picture will turn up too light to see.
Rembrandt lighting - This type of lighting occurs when one side of the model's face is lit by light and a triangle below the opposite eye appears.

Portraiture
This photo of Megan Lindahl is a prime example of portraiture because it not only shows the person, but something about her. By photographing the line of earrings the character is given a sense of uniqueness and the side angle gives a nice profile of the model. The background of lockers and another person brings a sense of place to the photograph and shows that she is a student.
This photo of my sister, Sara Castagnino, is another good example of portraiture. The scene is of her eating and caught off gaurd. The angle of being above the subject gave uniqueness to the photo. The shot is crisp and close, which brings the view into the photo.
Still Life
This photo of my shoe is a good example of still life. It is an object out of place in the picture and is crisp in the foreground so that it is the first thing to catch your eye.
Abstract
This photo of a tree is an example of abstract. It is an ordinary tree, but it is taken from an odd angle giving it lines of travel through the photo. It is also extremely crisp so that all of the texture of the tree is shown.
Documentary
This photo of children riding the bus is a wonderful example of documentary. The photo shows children in their natural habitat as most documentary photos do. The picture is a clear picture and depicts the characters well.
